The 2006 Auto Zone Elite Division, Midwest Series season was a NASCAR touring season held from June 3, 2006 to October 6, 2006 composed of six races, four of which were held in combination races with either the Southwest Series or the Southeast Series. Early in December 2006, NASCAR announced this would be the last season for the series (and all of the other three Elite Divisions). Tim Schendel claimed his only series championship, finishing every race in the top-ten and picking up one victory. Dan Fredrickson, who won three times, was the runner-up by just three points. Behind the duo was Steve Carlson, who finished out of the top-two for the first time in nearly two decades and also didn't win a race - finishing his career one victory short of all-time leader Dick Trickle (who never won in the series while it was sanctioned by NASCAR). Also winning races during the year were first-time winner Brent Kirchner and Josh Vadnais.
