The 2006 Auto Zone Elite Division, Southwest Series season was a NASCAR touring season held from January 22, 2006 to September 23, 2006 composed of eight races. Early in December 2006, NASCAR announced this would be the last season for the series (and all of the other three Elite Divisions). Rip Michels made the final series champion a pleasant surprise, grabbing his first series win at Irwindale and finishing no worse than 6th. Despite that incredible run, Eric Holmes just about beat him, as Holmes, the winner of the AutoZone West Series 2006 championship, fell one marker short despite barely nipping Michels in the season finale. Holmes led the series with three wins, M.K. Kanke ended the most victorious career in the series with two triumphs, and Matt Crafton, Michels, Auggie Vidovich all recorded one win.
