| Ben Benz is a former NASCAR driver from Far Rockaway, NY. He competed in nine Sprint Cup Series events in his career, earning four top-tens.
Benz's debut came in 1958, when he competed at Martinsville. It was a respectable effort for the driver at the short track, starting 24th and finishing a midpack 26th. Benz quickly further demonstrated his talent, finishing 9th at Old Bridge and 10th at Reading in his next two starts. He could well have run well at Wall, but finished last (19th) after early clutch woes.
Benz improved his points position to 62nd in his other season (the 1959 one), but struggled to find any consistency. Twice during his five starts that year Benz failed the race and only twice finished any better than 27th (that 27th coming in the first Daytona 500). But those two finishes were solid: a career-best 7th place run at Trenton Speedway and a 9th place showing at Reading.
