BIOGRAPHY
Carl Burris is a former NASCAR driver from Leaksville, NC. He competed in ten Sprint Cup Series events in his career, earning two top-tens.

Burris' debut came during the 1953 season, an extremely successful campaign for the driver. He finished a respectable 11th in his first career race - a short track event at High Point. But then Burris improved phenomenally a few weeks later at Martinsville, escaping from the tough short track with a career-best 5th place run.

Burris' lone 1953 start would also come at Martinsville, though the driver did not enjoy as much success as he had had the year before. Starting positions in the field of forty-four are unknown, but Burris wound up with a mid-pack effort of 21st.

Burris did not return to the sport until the 1958 season, when the driver ran four events. For the most part, Burris struggled. He was 47th in his first trip down to Daytona Beach Road Course due to a blown engine. Even on the North Carolina short tracks, Burris had some difficulties, finishing 20th at Fayetteville and 22nd (last) at Roanoke. However, Martinsville once again provided a bright spot for the driver, as he piloted his machine to ninth.

For his lone 1959 start, Burris made his first trip down to Darlington Raceway, competing in the famed Southern 500. Unfortunately, his trip went poorly as a blown engine very early in the race left Burris in 50th (last) place.

Burris' last two career starts came in the 1960 season, albeit accompanied by poor results. First, Burris tried to make the Daytona 500 down at Daytona International Speedway. But a struggling 30th place finish in the Qualifier event eliminated him from the 500 field. Instead, Burris elected to compete at Darlington a few weeks later, where an early crash left him a disappointing 26th to end his career.
