BIOGRAPHY
John Borneman (April 19, 1949 - ) is a former NASCAR driver from El Cajon, CA. He is also the father of Johnny Borneman, III. In his career, John competed in eight Sprint Cup Series and two Craftsman Truck Series events.

Sprint Cup

Borneman's Cup debut came during the 1977, when he competed at Ontario. It was not the type of debut Borneman hoped for, qualifying 41st and only improving to a 28th place finish due to a blown engine.

Borneman stepped it up to a three-race schedule for the 1978 season, running in all three of the combination events with the Winston West Series. It was still a rough year, though, for the driver. Clutch issues and transmission troubles combined to give Borneman finishes of 27th and 23rd in the Riverside races, followed up with a 25th place showing at Ontario.

Borneman's next race would then come during the 1979 season, when he competed at Riverside. Starting 17th in the field of thirty-five, Borneman seemed poised for a top-ten run until a late engine issue left him 20th.

Borneman stepped it back up to a two-race schedule for the 1980 season, running in both Riverside events. It was another tough year, though, for the driver. Transmission woes in the January event left him 31st, better than in the June race when engine failure left Borneman 34th.

Borneman's final career race in the series came during the 1981 season, when he competed one more time at Riverside. This time, Borneman was largely successful, completing all but three laps to record a career-best 12th place finish.

Trucks

Borneman surprisingly returned to the sport in 1995, electing to compete in both Phoenix races for the new Truck Series. Unfortunately, he also holds the distinction of finishing last (33rd) in the first ever series race, which was the February Phoenix event. He only improved slightly in his other start, struggling to 29th in the November Phoenix show.
