BIOGRAPHY

Johnny Allen (September 17, 1934- ) is a former NASCAR driver from Greenville, SC. He competed in 173 Sprint Cup Series events in his career, spanning from 1955 to 1967 and earned one win.

Allen raced full seasons from 1956 to 1958, earning a 7th place showing in the 1957 season. He earned most of his sixty-three career top-ten finishes during this time period and earned his first pole in 1957 at Myrtle Beach.

Yet, it wasn't until the 1960s that Allen finally cracked victory lane. After a solid 1961 season, in which he earned one pole, Allen topped that in 1962. He purely dominated the June race at Bowman-Gray Stadium, going onto win his only career race. He won a pole later in the year to go with his accomplishments, his third and final of his career.

However, fter poor showings in 1963 to 1967, Allen hung up his helmet and retired from NASCAR
