Tobey Butler is a former NASCAR driver from Kirkland, WA. He finished in the top-10 in points in the inagural year of the Craftsman Truck Series and then did a limited schedule. He is currently the Director of Competition for Evergreen Speedway.
Craftsman Truck Career
Butler was, in fact, one of the drivers who participated in the 1994 exhibition races the CTS held in preparation for 1995, the series' first full season. Butler landed a ride and would pilot the #21 Ortho Ford. However, he struggled. He only had five top-10 finishes in the twenty race schedule, the best being a pair of 4th at Louisville and Portland. However, for Butler, consistency was the key. He only finished seventeen of the twenty races, and had 16 top-20 finishes. Also, starts were key for Butler. He started in the top-10 nine times on the year, the best being an outside pole at Louisville. All of these factors lead to a 10th place finish in points.
In 1996, Butler was forced out of the #21 ride and ended up doing a six-race schedule for Ken Schrader's #52 team. In his first outing with the team at Evergreen, Butler won his first career pole. From there, Butler drove a smart race to sixth. In the other five races, he would tack on two more top-10 finishes. A sixth at Phoenix would match the Evergreen run.
Butler moved around in 1997, ending up running for Schrader and the #60 Farris Racing team. He struggled in the races for Schrader. In ten starts with that team, he only had one top ten finish: 9th at Portland. This led to his release and the Farris Racing truck. In three races with that team, he managed a pair of twelfths.
However, Butler did not return to the truck the next year and has not raced in major NASCAR since.
