The series evolved from the remains of the ACT Pro Stock Tour, the former NASCAR North Tour, following that series' closing at the end of the 1995 season.

2001 remains a significant mystery for The Third Turn, as the series seems to have dissolved halfway through the season without much fanfare. We have reached a point of logical statistical inference that there were only three races in 2001, but we can not say that with the same degree of absolute certainty as we can for the race listings from 1996-2000. Gary Smith was leading the points at the end of the abbreviated 2001 season. It was not clear if he was officially declared the champion, but The Third Turn lists him as the titlist for that season.
